5 Foods For Healthy Glowing Skin

Many people don't give much thought to this fact but the truth of the matter is the skin is the LARGEST organ of the body and if our nutrition choices aren't the greatest then our skin will show it! In fact, there are many indications the skin gives to tell us what's going on in the inside but we will save that topic for another time. To keep the skin healthy and glowing, eating better is a definite MUST and it feels good knowing you DO have control in obtaining beautiful healthy skin. Lets get right into it shall we.

    1. Fatty Fish: Omega 3's are essential in keeping the skin hydrated, supple and even thick. Fish like salmon, mackerel, herring and sardines are your best choices because they contain the most omega 3's then the rest of their fishy friends in the sea. The Omega 3's found in fish have amazing anti-inflammatory properties that have been studied and shown to help with autoimmune conditions including skin related issues like psoriasis and eczema. Also a great source of vitamin E, an antioxidant that helps neutralize free radical damage and helps protect healthy cells from damage. We strongly recommend eating fish that is wild-caught and not farm raised. You will not get nearly the same health benefits from farm raised fish!

    2. Avocado: It's all about healthy fats and avocado is loaded with them! Getting enough of these fats helps keep skin healthy and moisturized from the inside out (we love avocado so much, that it's one of the main ingredients in FLORA-A). The more moisturized your skin is, the more youthful it will look. Avocado is a great source of Vitamin E and C. Vitamin C is a powerful antioxidant that is particularly useful in protecting the skin from oxidative damage caused by the sun's rays.

    3. Walnuts: Again, another food high is essential fatty acids your body can not produce on it's own. Both rich in Omega 3 and 6, these fatty acids together help strengthen the membranes of skin cells, locking in nutrients and moisture to help keep skin supple and plump while keeping out toxins that damage skin cells.

    4. Sweet Potatoes: Just like other brightly colored vegetables, sweet potatoes are loaded with provitamin A that when eaten, the body converts into Vitamin A. Vitamin A is essential to skin health and is responsible for cell production and growth. It stimulates fibroblasts, the cells responsible for developing tissue that keeps the skin firm and healthy deep down in the dermal layers. Fibroblasts are vital in keeping the structural component of the skin from caving in, causing loss of firmness and wrinkles. Don't like sweet potato? Brightly colored vegetables like red, orange and yellow bell peppers, butternut squash and carrots are also great choices.

    5. Dark Chocolate: We mean dark chocolate 85% or higher in cacao. Dark Chocolate hosts a range of potent antioxidants like flavonoids. Flavonoids have shown to reflect UV light, one of the greatest threats responsible for the destruction of collagen. It also works well with gut bacteria to reduce inflammation within the body that ultimately effect skin radiance by reducing inflammatory conditions like eczema and even acne. Not only is dark chocolate full of antioxidants, it is also a rich source off essential minerals like copper, iron and zinc all of which promote cell growth.

Healthy, beautiful skin is something most of us desire but in order to get it you have to understand skin is an organ and caring for it from both the inside and out is essential to getting the results you desire. By making healthy lifestyle choices as well as caring for your skin with clean, non toxic beauty products , you will get the skin you always wanted along with better health.
